With limited funds and resources for filming such a large-scale stop-motion film, Dan had to develop his own method for filming animation. Using a digital still camera, he found himself able to manipulate the high-quality images with a boundless freedom in the computer. Whereas the digital still camera cost under $1000, any other method of filming would have cost upwards of ten times as much, and would have permitted a fraction of control over the images. This innovative technique is another advance in independent digital filmmaking, and has since been integrated into NYU’s Animation Program.
