The world that "Shadowplay" represents, in reality, was housed in a black room roughly 20 ft x 10 ft. And for some shots, the sets were filmed in Dan Blank's basement. Each character stood no more nine inches tall. Props like a radio were only an inch long. Sets ranged from two feet to six feet long. But the rich depth of the sets and the epic feel of the film was achieved through green-screen compositing and many layers of sets placed over each other in the computer. The amber sky and ever-present dust clouds were created digitally and placed into the layered compositions of sets.
